About the Event
Our stories hold power. As women of color, honing and wielding the power of our voices is an important way we get our basic needs met. In a famous essay, Audre Lorde declared that “...poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity of our existence.” In this storytelling workshop, we will learn to tell our stories in the ways that are the most comfortable and natural to us. (Poetry is only one form of storytelling.) As women of color, honing and wielding the power of our voices is an important way to influence the world around us and get our basic needs met. Workshops will be held Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:30 pm: 9/22/2022, 10/6/2022, 10/20/2022, 10/27/2022, 11/3/2022. These workshops will be led by Detroit Playwright Shawntai Brown.
