Director of Field Organizing

Courtney Blake Sims has always felt compelled to lend a hand to those in need in her neighborhood. Her professional experience in field organizing was the source of inspiration for pursuing more organizing work. She is the proud mother to a 16-year-old daughter. Born and raised in Detroit, MI , Courtney began her career as an election assistant with the Wayne County Department of Elections. After leaving the elections office, Courtney started working for a local marketing group to support the election and re-election of former Detroit Mayor Dave Bing. She became dedicated to giving members of her community a voice and assisting them in realizing their goals.

As a result, Courtney developed a love for encouraging citizens to participate in politics and governance. She started working as a field organizer for the US Census Bureau, conducting door-to-door surveys and gathering data for the census.

“I'm motivated to do good work in my community by the idea of making a positive difference in people's lives. Seeing the impact of my work, both big and small, is incredibly rewarding and makes me feel connected to the community. The people I meet and the stories they tell, also inspire me and help to remind me of the importance of my work; The sense of accomplishment and pride that comes from doing something to help make my community a better place.”
