Our staff and board include active advocates, organizers, activists, artists, and elected officials who enjoy cultivating and implementing creative strategies that will improve the quality of life of black and indigenous families and families of color (BIPOC). We are a black women-led organization that believes in the power of diversity in the community.

Danielle Atkinson

National Executive Director, Founder
In 2012, Danielle founded Mothering Justice, a leadership development and advocacy organization. She has led organizing efforts to raise the minimum wage in both Florida and Michigan. Mothering Justice also led the fight to get earned paid sick time in Michigan.

Aisha Wells

Deputy Director of Campaigns
Aisha has a pivotal role in researching, designing and implementing impactful advocacy and policy campaigns that align with Mothering Justice’s mission. Aisha Wells organizes with mamas of color in the community to understand the Mamas' Agenda issues in the workplace and everyday life.
Courtney Blake Sims

Deputy Director of Organizing
Courtney Blake Sims has always felt compelled to lend a hand to those in need in her neighborhood. Her professional experience in field organizing was the source of inspiration for pursuing more organizing work. She is the proud mother to a 16-year-old daughter.

Shukura Wells

Field Organizer
Shukura Wells is a Field Organizer. She works to build strong relationships throughout her community. She focuses on voter engagement and educating her community on the importance on staying connected with government policy.

Deputy Director of Administration
Aqeela leads Mothering Justice’s communications, project management, human resources, finance, and operations, ensuring the organization’s systems and teams work in alignment to support our mission. You can often find her at the National Movement Home, helping bring strategy to life and keeping the day-to-day work moving forward.
Eden Sabolboro

Communications Director
Eden Sabolboro is a communications leader and two-time EMMY® award-winning Filipino-American immigrant storyteller who brings over a decade of expertise in strategic narrative development and multimedia production to her role as Communications Director.

As a Multi-State Community Organizer, Alejandra builds trusted relationships with mothers, caregivers, and community members across multiple states to strengthen collective power and advance equity for families.

Ashley Michele

Director of Project Management
As the Director of Project Management at Mothering Justice, Ashley drives change by leading signature events nationwide for the organization. Ashley also spearheads the In Her Honor project and Mothering Justice's work with the Congressional Mamas Caucus.
Rhonna-Rose Akama Makia, aPHRi

People and Culture Manager
Growing up as the child of West African immigrants in the American South, Rhonna-Rose has always been driven by a desire to connect with diverse communities and foster meaningful change. Based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business and brings over a decade of experience in leadership development and human resource management.
